Dale Heit Photography: Zion National Park

The Photographer

Dale Heit is an amateur photographer based in the Southern Utah area, where he has lived and worked for twenty years. Most of his experience and training comes from patience, practice and study.

Dale’s love for art and nature and his knack for mechanics made photography the perfect hobby for him, even as a boy. Introduced to photography at age 12, Dale spent many hours shooting black and white photographs of the local mountains in Southern California where he was raised. Included in his experience was learning the traditional darkroom process. 'There was something exciting and magical about watching your images appear in the developer tray,' Dale says.

Craving greater control over the photographic process, Dale leaped into digital photography in 2002. Though he enjoys the freedom digital equipment offers, he much prefers taking the shots to editing them. Therefore he makes every effort to get it right on location. 'I have been blessed to be able to live and work in such a spectacular place and among the good people of Utah.’
